Scholarships

We support health information management professionals in pursuit of degrees in health information and related programs
The AHIMA Foundation is thankful for the commitment of our generous donors who help us support health information professionals through our Scholarship program. Thank you to the Walter Reed Society for their continued support of our Veteran's Scholarship.

Degree Types

Associate's Degree

Associate's Degree

Amount: $1,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)-accredited AA degree in HIM or HIT
Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Amount: $ 1,500 award
Type: For students pursuing a CAHIIM-accredited BA/BS degree or a Post-Baccalaureate certificate in HIM or HIT
Master's Degree

Master's Degree

Amount: $ 2,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a master's degree in areas related to HIM or health Informatics
Doctoral Degree

Doctoral Degree

Amount: $ 2,500 award
Type: For students pursuing a doctoral degree in an area related to health information

Scholarships

Veteran's Scholarship

Veteran's Scholarship

The program is designed to provide financial assistance for Veteran Military Service Members from the U.S. Armed Forces, and spouses of Veteran Service Members, including active duty military, retirees, veterans, wounded warriors and surviving spouses.

Additional eligibility includes:

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association
  • Accepted into a health information program accredited by a national or regional agency of the United States, and
  • Have at least six (6) credit hours remaining
  • Submit a completed online application all of its components.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association
  • Actively enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours towards pursuing a degree
  • Completed 24 credit hours towards a degree (for graduate degree applicants, this can include undergraduate credit hours)
  • Have at least six (6) credit hours remaining after the award date (after December 30)
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) or 4.5 (out of 5.0) based on the most recently completed 24 credit hours
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application
  • Submit a completed online application and all its components
Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarship

  • Current member of AHIMA
  • Actively enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours towards pursuing a degree
  • Completed 24 credit hours towards a degree (for graduate degree applicants, this can include undergraduate credit hours)
  • Have at least six (6) credit hours remaining after the award date (after December 30)
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) or 4.5 (out of 5.0) based on the most recently completed 24 credit hours
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application
  • Submit a completed online application and all its components
Dissertation Support Scholarship

Dissertation Support Scholarship

  • Current member of AHIMA
  • Actively enrolled and pursuing a doctoral degree in health information, health informatics or a program related to the health information discipline at an accredited school in the United States.
  • Successfully defended a dissertation proposal, confirmed by the candidate's advisor
  • Candidate is currently in the stage of collecting data but has not defended a dissertation
  • Candidate is in good academic standing
  • Submit a completed online application and all of its components
  • All candidates meeting the eligibility award criteria, including previous AHIMA Foundation merit scholarship recipients are eligible for one-time dissertation support
